Turkish Airlines Confirms A350 Premium Economy
Premium Economy makes a comeback for Turkish Airlines

Premium Economy travellers will be excited to learn about the newest development from Turkish Airlines. They’ll be adding Premium Economy to its next generation of long-range Airbus A350 jets, including globe-striding planes that will connect Istanbul and Australia in one non-stop flight.

The Star Alliance member serves over 300 destinations in 100+ countries. The Premium Economy product is set to launch in 2028, as said by TK Chairman Murat Seker. It mainly comes after a wide range of feedback from their Miles & Smiles frequent flyer program.

What to Expect From Turkish Airlines Premium Economy?

Earlier this year, Turkish Airlines surveyed select members of its Miles & Smiles frequent flyer program regarding Premium Economy. It posed a variety of questions including;

  • the top features they would expect from a Premium Economy cabin
  • which factors would influence their decision to purchase a Premium Economy ticket
  • how they would “like the meal service offered in Premium Economy to be improved”
  • willingness “to pay a fare difference to fly in a seat with greater legroom and a wider seating area” on flights of 2.5–5 hours, 5–8 hours, and more than 8 hours.

The poll also sought feedback on other airlines’ Premium Economy product and the overall expectations from their customers.

Speaking at the IATA Annual General Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Chairman Murat Seker revealed that the airline is actively developing a new premium offering.

“We are going to have premium economy,” he confirmed on the sidelines of the International Air Transport Association Annual General Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, adding “our consensus is that the product is going to be very valuable for Turkish Airlines.”

“Our thinking is as early as 2028 – at the beginning of 2028 – we will be able to introduce a premium economy class in our Airbus A350s.”

Has Turkish Airlines Had Premium Economy Before?

Turkish Airlines isn’t new to this space. Between 2010 and 2016, the carrier’s B777 fleet included a ‘Comfort Class’ Premium Economy cabin. It featured a familiar set of benefits such as wider seats with more legroom, increased recline and an adjustable leg rest, all in a 2-3-2 seating configuration.

It even featured a specialised inflight dining experience. Guests enjoyed white linens, proper crockery and cutlery, as well as great food choice and multiple courses.
