Singapore Airlines Premium Economy

Cabin and Seat

Having not flown Singapore Airlines Premium Economy for almost eight years, I boarded the plane wondering if I would notice any differences at that time. However, remembering it was a comfortable experience, I looked forward to experiencing it again.

The Singapore Airlines A380 Premium Economy cabin is separate from the Economy cabin by a gally and toilets. I like that this made the cabin feel intimate and private. I was seated in the middle aisle of the 2-4-2 configured cabin, but it was an empty flight, so I had two seats free next to me. Waiting for me at my seat was a blanket, a good-sized pillow, noise-cancelling headphones and a bottle of water. There was a spacious amount of legroom and space under the seat in front of me to store small items, as well as the overhead compartment for bigger items. I liked that there were two options for charging devices: next to the entertainment screen was a USB port, and closer to the floor were universal plugs for larger devices.

Singapore Airlines Premium Economy Seat

With a seat recline of 20cm and a seat pitch of 97cm, the Singapore Airlines Premium Economy feels spacious and wide. It can be reclined by two buttons on the armrest. A footrest is attached to the seat in front, and a calf rest can be extended for more support. When reclined, I thought the seat was comfortable, but I found that if I extended the calf support I felt squashed and it was better for me to use the footrest and recline my seat to rest.

Amenities

I was surprised that I was not given an amenity kit, but this was because my flight was under 7 hours. However, I could request an amenity kit with an eye mask, lip balm, slippers, and earplugs.

Entertainment and WiFi

The entertainment screen was decent size at 13.3-inches and was easy to navigate with the corded remote that clicked into the armrest. The KrisWorld entertainment system has an excellent selection of movies, TV shows and other entertainment options, featuring hundreds of hours worth. As this was a night flight I didn’t watch too much but it was good to have options to watch during dinner.

Singapore Airlines Premium Economy Entertainment

WiFi is available for all KrisFlyer members on board as a perk. When connecting, I was prompted to enter my seat number, and then it was connected. I found the connection good for checking social media but was patchy at times.

Dining

Before my flight, I pre-selected my meal with Singapore Airlines Book the Cook, which allowed me to pre-select my main meal up to 24 hours in advance. I chose the Singapore Chicken and Rice, but there was a range of options to choose from. This included their wellness range, which has been designed by Australian chefs and is only available on flights to Australia. I was impressed with the meal; it was very well-proportioned and tasty yet light enough to eat before resting. The accompanying salad was rocket, potato and prosciutto which I had with the cheese and crackers as a bit of a starter. For dessert, there was chocolate and a lime cheesecake which was smooth and great to end with.

Singapore Airlines Premium Economy Dining

Unfortunately for breakfast, I was not given a choice, which was really surprising. I was disappointed when I saw that everyone was given a Mushroom Potato Puff. I thought this was a bit strange after such a good dinner service.

Summary

If you are looking to try out Premium Economy on your next trip, I would recommend looking into the Singapore Airlines A380. My favourite things about this cabin was the privacy, the seat itself and the Business Class elements like a wider screen, charging ports, a delicious dinner and a welcome drink.
